Often referred to as "vegetable ivory," the corozo or "tagua" nut can be found in Australia, Brazil, Central America, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and other parts of South America (1).
Why We Choose Corozo Buttons
- Corozo nuts contain a milk-like fluid which, upon drying, becomes solid and takes on the appearance of ivory (2).
- The nuts used in our buttons are grown in Ecuador. The ripe nuts are gathered by farmers when they fall from the trees, avoiding the need to cut or harvest any of the palms (3).
- Drying and whitening takes place outdoors in sunny courtyards, meaning that the buttons do not need to be dried in ovens. Natural dyes are then used wherever possible (4).
